ラジオ英会話 「He crashed into the fence」2019年4月17日 Lesson13

～ラジオ英会話4月のテーマと目的～
・ 今年度のテーマは、単語・英語表現のイメージ。日本語訳ではなく、イメージで単語を操作することで、英会話は飛躍する。

Lesson13：「intoのイメージ」

 A) What’s all this noise about?
 B) It’s the cram school students again. The night class just ended.
 A) Why is that boy lying on the ground? Is he OK?
 B) I saw what the kid did. He crashed into the fence.
 A) Should we call an ambulance?
 B) No. He’s getting up, and everybody’s laughing now.
 A) Kids today have no common sense. They’re always looking at their phones while riding their bikes.
 B) I know. They need to be more careful.
 A) They also need to be quiet outside during the nighttime!

 ＊" cram school " = 学習塾
＊" Kids today " = 今どきの子供

- Check your grammar -
① What’s all this noise about?
　このやかましい音は一体何なんだ？
② I saw what the kid did.
　その子が何をやったのかを見ましたよ。

＊①の " wh疑問文 " は「空白（about の後ろ）」が重要。空所は質問のターゲット。　②の " what " は疑問の意味を持たず、文の部品でしかない。

- Build up your vocabulary -
He crashed into the fence.
彼はあそこのフェンスにぶつかったんです。

＊この " into " は「中へのｓ動き」イメージ。そこから「めり込み・衝突の衝撃」に繋がる。また、「入り込んでいる → 大好きだ」という使い方もある。

 （例文）
・I bumped into Ken on my way home.（= ran into）
　家に帰る途中、ケンにバッタリ会った。
・I’m really into yoga now. 
　今はヨガにハマっています。
・They promised to look into the matter.
　彼らはその件について調べると約束してくれた。
・The prince changed into a toad.
　王子様はヒキガエルになった。
・He has a lot of things on his mind.
　彼はたくさん気にかかっていることがある。

- Express yourself in English -
1) 明日の朝早くにオフィスにおいでください。
2) 僕が今朝誰と出くわしたのか、信じてもらえないだろうけどね。

（答え）
1) Please come into the office early tomorrow morning.
2) You’ll never believe who I bumped into this morning.
（解説）
2）" You’ll never believe "  = 「話したくてうずうずしている」ことが伝わる感じ
