Lorraine）Hi, Bill.
Bill）Hi, Lorraine. I thought you were away on a trip somewhere.
Lorraine）That's next week. I'm going to Boracay for a nice break before the new semester.
Bill）Boracay? Where's that?
Lorraine）It's a beautiful island in the Philippines, famous for its white sand beaches.
Bill）Sounds like paradise.
Lorraine）Yes, I'm really looking forward to it. By the way, would you mind watering my plants while I'm away?
Bill）No problem. But I'll expect a wonderful souvenir!
Lorraine）Of course!

＊You must be joking! = まさか
＊jump to a conclusion = 結論を急ぐ

① 「時制の一致」
　I thought you were away on a trip somewhere.
　君はどこかへ旅行に出かけていると思っていました。
② the + 複数形「グループ全体」（フィリピンは複数の島々からなる」
　It's a beautiful island in the Philippines.
　フィリピンにある美しい島です。

私が留守の間、私の鉢植えに水をやっていただけませんか。
＊隣人にモノを頼む丁寧さ。
＊" Would you mind ～? " = は " Could/Would you please ～? " と同じレベル
＊" Can you " はそこまで丁寧でない。上司から部下。
＊赤の他人に頼むときは、前置きが必要。
