Lesson133「思考を表す動詞④ 予期する・想像する：expect, imagine」
Will）Hi, Riko. Did you do anything special over the weekend?
Riko）I went trick-or-treating with my daughter on Sunday.
Will）Oh, yeah. For Halloween. That sounds like fun.
Riko）Well, it was fun for a while, but then it started to rain. I didn’t expect rain.
Will）That’s too bad. What was your daughter’s costume?
Riko）She was a princess. I made the costume for her.
Will）Oh, that’s right. You used to be a patternmaker, didn’t you?
Riko）You remembered!

＊" patternmaker " = 衣服用の型紙製作者
＊" relish " = 楽しむ、味わう

＊" over the weekend " = 週末にかけて。

＊ " expect " は「当然こうなるはずだ」と予期・期待する。「ex-（外を）spect（見る）」。期待の圧力が働く時がある（上司から部下）。好ましくない状況に対しても使える
＊" imagine " は「想像する」。相手に寄り添う温かい感じ。

（例文）
・I expect to arrive at 8 o’clock.
　8時に到着すると思うよ。
・Do you expect me to agree with everything you say?
　私があなたの言うことに何でも同意すると思っていたの？
・I expect you all to participate actively in class.
　皆さんには授業に積極的に参加するよう期待する。
・All members are expected to obey the dress code.
　すべてのメンバーはドレスコードに従うことを求められています。
・I can’t imagine living without you.
　君なしで暮らしていくなんて想像もできないよ。
・I imagine you must really miss your family.
　ご家族を思って寂しくしている気持ちをお察しします。

1) We expect to increase our profits by around 5% this year.

1) " knows Sydney " = ,一番深い知識を知っている " knows of Sydney " = 名前を聞いたことある程度, " knows about Sydney " = 色々知っている程度,
