Lesson118「主張する　レベル2動詞：insist, claim, assert」
 A) It’s so good to see you again, Marilyn. How have you been?
 B) Very well. Thanks, Keith. How about you?
 A) Can’t complain. Actually, I’ve just started my own real estate company.
 B) That sounds great, but very challenging.
 A) Yes, it’s not easy, but I relish such a challenge.
 B) Was it tough to persuade your wife?
 A) Well, she was naturally nervous, but I insisted that it was the right thing to do.
 B) So now she supports you.
 A) Absolutely.

＊" put forward " = 提案する
＊" relish " = 楽しむ、味わう

- Check your grammar -

　奥さんを説得するのは大変だった？

＊" hope " は「状況を思い描く」ことのできる動詞

（例文）
・I want you to enjoy the show.
　君にショーを楽しんでもらいたいんだよ

- Build up your vocabulary -
I insisted that it was the right thing to do.
僕はそうするのが正しい選択だと言い張ったんだ。

＊ " insist " は「ここから出ないよう」イメージ。「上に立って動かない」という語源を持ち、「自分の主張は変えないよ」という頑固さがある。。
＊ " claim " は「叫ぶ」イメージ。「私は正しい・私には手に入れる権利がある」と叫んでいる感触。
＊ " assert " は「はっきりと自分の主張をする」。非常にポジティブな単語。

 （例文）
・She claimed that she was innocent.
　彼女は自分が無実だと主張した。
・You should be able to claim expenses for entertaining your foreign clients.
　外国人のお客さんをもてなした経費は請求できるはずだよ。
・Passengers on flight 203 from Istanbul may claim their baggage at carousel No.4.
　イスタンブールから203便でお越しのお客様は4番の回転台で荷物をお取りになれます。
・The leadership camp taught me to assert myself more.
　そのリーダーシップ研修は、私にもっと自己主張することを教えてくれた。

1) 彼女は割り勘にしようと言い張った。
2) その女性は自分が強盗に遭ったと主張した。
3) 多くの女性が自らの権利を主張しているのを見ると勇気づけられる。

2) The woman claimed that she had been robbed.
3) It’s encouraging to see so many women asserting their rights.
