Lesson213：「仮定法＋前置詞」

 A) Hi, Mayuri. You look a bit down. Is anything wrong?
 B) Hi, Charlie. It’s my boyfriend. Recently, he’s been behaving strangely.
 A) How do you mean?
 B) Well, for example, he cancels our date at the last minute with some lame excuse. And when we do get together, he seems more interested in his cell phone than me.
 A) Mmm. That’s not good at all. You know, were I your boyfriend, I would treat you much better.
 B) Oh, that’s very sweet of you to say so, Charlie.
 A) I mean it! So why don’t you ditch him and be my girlfriend?
 B) Huh?

＊You look a bit down = 元気がない様に見える
＊lame excuse = 嘘っぽい言い訳
＊I mean it = 本当の気持ちだよ

僕が君のボーイフレンドだったら、君をもっと大事にするだろうに。

＊この形は「主語ー助動詞倒置」。倒置は「感情の高揚」を表す形。勢いよく述べられている。ifを使わなくても、条件を示せる。感情を伝えるには、if は使わない方が良い。

・Had it not been for the seat belt, I would have been badly injured.
　シートベルトがなかったら、ひどいけがをしていたことだろう。
・You ever insult me again, I’ll throw you off the team.
　今度私を侮辱したら、チームから追い出すからな。
