・ " 仮定法 "と " If " は、ネイティブの心理への理解が重要。仮定法は、可能性が著しく低いという話し手の心理を表す特別な時表現。
・形と心理がシンクロしていることを楽しもう

Lesson203：「if節を使った仮定法：現在の状況についての仮定法を使う②」

 A) How was your weekend, Jeff?
 B) Fine, I suppose. I just stayed at home.
 A) Why don’t you venture out and see a bit more of Japan?
 B) I want to, but I don’t have a car. If I had a car, I could go to many places.
 A) You don’t need a car. Just use public transportation
 B) I guess I could do that. Can you recommend any good places?
 A) Well, Next weekend, I’m going to Mt. Takao with some of my friends. Would you like to come with us?
 B) Next weekend? I’d love to, but I have to work.
 A) You work too much, Jeff.
 B) I know, but I love my job.

＊ " venture out " = 思い切って出かける

- Real grammar for communication -

If I had a car, I could go to many places.
もし車を持っていたら、たくさんの場所に行けるのに。

＊if節を用いた仮定法の文。今回は" would " でなく、" could " を使っている。could は can の控え目なバージョン。can の持つ「できるよ！」という断定から「できるんじゃないかな？」と弱く、引いたニュアンスになる。

（例文）

・If I had more time, I could explain things more clearly.
もっと時間があったら、もっとキチンと説明できるのに。
・If you played your cards right, you might persuade Mariko to go out with you.
　もう少し上手にやったら、マリコとつきあってもらえるかもしれないのに。

1) もし君に十分体力があったら、富士登山に挑戦だってできるのに。
2) クリスの手料理を試したら、君は病院送りになってしまうかもしれないね！

（答え）
1) If you were fit enough, you could try climbing Mt. Fuji.
2) If you tried Chris’s cooking, you might end up in the hospital!
（解説）
1）healthy means you have no health problems, right? So you’re not sick, you’re in good health. Whereas, fit, probably means you’ve done a lot of exercise, and you’re in excellent physical conditions.it’s more of muscular.
2）end up = 結局~になる「you might end up bankrupt, or you might end up broke. Or if you keep being so grumpy, you might end up alone」
