Lesson204：「仮定法を使ったフレーズ」

 A) This will be our last time together.
 B) What? What do you mean?
 A) Ryan, we can’t go on like this. We fight all the time. It’s no fun anymore.
 B) OK, I’ve made a few mistakes. I know I’m not perfect. I promise I’ll change, Akemi.
 A) You always say that. It’s too late, Ryan. We’re not right for each other. It’s time we said goodbye.
 B) Wait a minute. We can work things out. I’ll be better in the future.
 A) No, let’s stop wasting our time. You’ll find a better partner and so will I.

＊" work things out " = 問題を上手く解決する
＊" So do I " = 私もそうだよ。

- Real grammar for communication -
It’s time we said goodbye.
さよならを言うべき時です。

＊「It's time + 仮定法」は反事実と相性が良く、「さよならをする時間（だけどまだしていない）」という気持ち。「as if =（実際は違うのに）そのように」「if only = 残念な気持ち」「If it were not for X = ～がなかったら」「were to = これから～」

（例文）
・My boyfriend acts as if he were my boss. 
　私のボーイフレンドは私の上司かのようにふるまうのよ。
・If only Bob were here. 　
　ボブがここにいさえすればなあ。
・If it were not for your support, I would not be where I am today.
　君のサポートがなければ、僕は今日いる場所にはいないだろう。
・If you were to visit Japan in early April, make sure you see the gorgeous cherry blossoms.
4月初旬に日本に行くなら、すばらしい桜の花を絶対見てね。

2) 彼はわが物顔に(その場所を所有しているかのように)ふるまっている！

（解説）
1）" were not " より " weren't " の方が言い易い。
