Dialog1「Let's Go Here Then」
１．A）Have you tried tonkatsu, Gordon?
　　B）What's that, Mariko?
　　A）It's a pork cutlet breaded in panko and deep-fried.
　　B）That's making me hungry.

・pork cutlet：豚のカツ
・breaded in panko：パン粉でくるんだ
・deep-fried：たっぷりの油で揚げた

2．A）Let's go here then! It's a tonkatsu specialty restaurant.
　 B）What are these curtains in the doorway called?
　 A）They're called noren.
　 B）Can you take a photo of me by the noren?

・specialty：[sペエシュウティ]

・in the doorway：入口(出口)の

　じゃ、ここにしましょう

＊提案する表現｡「合意があったり、ありそうなとき」に " Let's…" を使います｡"go here" = 便利な省エネフレーズ．われわれの正面のレストランに、と言わずにhereともっていくことができます｡そして "then " で「そういうことなら」という合意の気持ちを表しています｡

Dialog2「I'll Go with Rosu」
１．A）Here's a menu. See all the pictures?
　　B）Whoa. Where do we begin?
　　A）Let's begin with the kind of tonkatsu you want.
　　B）Okay.

・See all the ～?：～がこんなにたくさんあるでしょう?
・Whoa：おおっ/ちょっと待って
・the kind of ～ you want：欲しい～の1品

２．A）This is rosu meaning pork loin. And this is hire or pork fillet, which is a leaner cut.
　　B）I'll go with rosu.
　　A）Good. I'll go with hire. Now a drink?
　　B）Water's fine!

・pork loin：豚の腰肉
・this is X or Y.：これはX、つまりYです
・pork fillet：豚のヒレ肉

・lean：脂肪が少ない
・go with：～にする，を選ぶ

- Apply It -
I'll go with rosu.

僕はロースにする。
＊「I'll go with ...」 = 選択を意味する日常表現．「I'll have ....」のパターン同様、よく使われる．

Dialog3「Use It Sparingly」
１．A）Looks good! What do we have here?
　　B）That's a dish of toasted sesame seeds. Grind it with this pestle and add it to the sauce.
　　A）All righty. And this is …?
　　B）That's hot mustard. Use it sparingly.

・sparingly：少しずつ
・Looks good!：おいしそう!
・toasted sesame（seeds）：煎ったごま
・grind A with B：AをBですりつぶす
・pestle：すりこぎ
・hot mustard：辛いマスタード

２．A）Too late! My mouth is burning up!
　　B）You okay?
　　A）Woo-ee! Yeah, I'm fine. This tonkatsu is really tasty!
　　B）

・My mouth is burning up!：辛くて口の中が燃えるようです

Use it sparingly.

　少しずつ使ってください

＊「使いすぎないように」というアドバイス。これを "Please" で始めると「事務的な印象，使うと迷惑」であるという感じを与えることもあります。フレンドリーにこのままひょいと投げかけるような調子で言ってみましょう．「sparing（控える）」が語源．

Dialog4「You'll Get the Hang of It Soon」
１．A）Whew! It was packed like sardines!
　　B）You said it! I kept bumping into people!
　　A）Try to stay out of the way when the doors open.
　　B）Right. I learned that the hard way!

・packed like sardines：すし詰めで（イワシの缶詰の様に）
・You said it.：まさにあなたの言うとおり
・stay out of the way：じゃまにならないようにする
・learn ～ the hard way：苦労して～を学ぶ

２．A）You'll get the hang of it soon.
　　B）Now where are we going?
　　A）Asakusa. It's right here on the map.
　　B）Great.

・get the hang of it ：コツをつかむ
・Now where are we going?：さて次はどこへ行きますか?
・here on the map：地図のここに

　じきにコツがつかめるわよ！

＊「the hang」 = あるものを扱うコツのことです。「You'll get it soon.」「get the knack of ～」とも言えます．
