Friend) How was your trip?
Woman）Oh, there were ups and downs.
Friend）What happened?
Woman）My flight was cancelled due to bad weather.
Friend）That's too bad!
Woman）So I rebooked for the next day.
Friend）That's good.
Woman）But when I checked in, they said the flight was overbooked.
Friend）No!
Woman）So I was upgraded to first class.
Friend）Oh, wow!

・ups and downs　山と谷/浮き沈み
・due to ～　～のために・理由で「ネガティブな出来事」
・rebook for ～　～(の日時)で再予約する
・overbooked　オーバーブッキングで
・be upgraded to ～　～にアップグレードされる
・No! 　そんな!　そりゃない!

山あり谷ありでした。

＊情報を伝える表現。「ups（良い出来事）」と「downs（悪い出来事）」の両方が過去のある期間に起こったことを表す。自分を主語にしても言えます。それが " I had ups and downs." こちらでもオーケー。

　ある女性は旅行から帰ってきたばかりです。スタートは山あり谷ありでしたが、最後に彼女はファーストクラスにアップグレードされました!

A woman is just back from her trip. There were ups and downs at the start. But in the end, she got upgraded to first class.
