・ 動詞が分からなければ、どうしようもない。

Lesson43「基本動詞の持つ意味の広がり：go」

 A) This valley is so beautiful.
 B) Look at that castle over there! We can reach it easily if we go over that old bridge.
 A) No way! It looks like it’s about to go. We should hike down into the valley instead.
 B) We’ll have to hike down and then climb up again.
 A) But it will be worth it. It’s like life.
 B) What do you mean?
 A) Life has its ups and downs. But if we keep fighting, we will get to our destination.

＊" stinky tofu " = 臭豆腐
＊" Come on " = 相手をたしなめる表現

- Check your grammar -
① We’ll have to hike down and then climb up again.
　下っていってから、また登り直さなければならないよ。
② What do you mean?
　何を言いたいの？　

＊" have to " より " will have to " の方が強い意志がある。

（例文）
・

- Build up your vocabulary -
It looks like it’s about to go.
その橋は落ちてしまいそうだよ。

＊ここの " go " のイメージは「元の場所から出ていき進んでいく」。だから、壊れるニュアンスがある。

 （例文）
・Let’s go, or we’ll be late.
　もう行こうよ、そうしなければ遅れちゃうから。
・The pain will go soon.
　痛みはすぐ治まりますよ。
・The engine is gone.
　エンジンが壊れてしまった。（直せないくらい）。
・How is your new job going?
　新しい仕事はどんな感じ？
・How’s it going?
　調子はどうですか？

- Express yourself in English -
1) おいで、子どもたち。出発の時間だよ。
2) 電球が切れちゃったよ。
3) 就職活動はどんな感じですか？

（答え）
1) Come on, kids. It’s time for us to go.
2) The light bulb is gone.
3) How is the job hunting going?
（解説）
2) " has gone  " と " is gone " には大した違いはない
