～ラジオ英会話4月のテーマと目的～
・今年度のテーマは、単語・英語表現のイメージ。日本語訳ではなく、イメージで単語を操作することで、英会話は飛躍する。

Lesson16：「byのイメージ：howに対応する使い方」

A) Koichi, which hot spring resort should we choose for the three-day weekend?
B) My grandparents run a great little hotel in the mountains of Sizuoka.
A) Is there a web page for it?
B) Yes. Let me see. Ah, here it is. It’s an old web page, though.
A) From these photos, the place looks kind of shabby.
B) Don’t judge a book by its cover. The hot spring there is first-class and the food is exquisite.
A) Are you sure?

＊" cram school " = 学習塾
＊" Kids today " = 今どきの子供

① Which hot spring resort should we choose for the three-day weekend?
　週末の3連休には私たち、どこの温泉リゾート地を選ぶべきかしら
② My grandparents run a great little hotel in the mountains of Shizuoka.
　僕の祖父母が静岡の山の中で、こぢんまりしたすてきなホテルを経営しているんだ。
③ The place looks kind of shabby.
ちょっと古くてみすぼらしく見えるわね。

＊①の " wh疑問文 " は「空白（chose の後ろ）」が重要。空所は質問のターゲット。　③は " kind of " は " shabby " を和らげる言い方

見た目で中身を判断しちゃいけないよ。

＊この " by " は「手段・方法」を示している。手段・方法は目的を達成するための手立て。だから、身近に感じられる。また、「how much」にも対応し、程度も表せる。

　裏道を使えば早いよ。

　ルールに従ってプレーするべきです。
・I go to school by bicycle.
　自転車で学校に通っています。
・Our sales increased by 5％ this year.
　今年当社の売り上げは5％伸びた。
