ラジオ英会話　「I don’t have enough cash on me」2019年4月11日　Lesson9

～ラジオ英会話4月のテーマと目的～
・今年度のテーマは、単語・英語表現のイメージ。日本語訳ではなく、イメージで単語を操作することで、英会話は飛躍する。

Lesson9：「onの基本イメージ」

A) That was the most delicious dinner I’ve ever had.
B) I’m so happy you enjoyed it. This has been a wonderful date.
A) Here comes the server with the check.
B) This is my treat.
A) Oh, thank you!
B) Oh, no! I’ve left my credit card at home, and I don’t have enough cash on me.
A) Don’t worry. I’ll take care of it.
B) How embarrassing!

＊" Here comes the server " = 倒置
＊" I’ll take care of it " = 私に任せて

- Check your grammar -
① That was the most delicious dinner I’ve ever had.
これは私が今まで食べた中で最高においしい食事だったわ。
② I’m so happy you enjoyed it.
　君が気に入ってくれて、僕もとてもうれしいよ。

＊①の " ever " は " at any time " を意味する単語。最上級と相性が良い。②はリポート文。

- Build up your vocabulary -
I don’t have enough cash on me.
僕は十分な現金を手元に持ってはいません。

＊" on " のイメージは「接触」。"on me " は「今」手元にない、ということを示す。これは、身の回りの物・持ち運べるもの限定の表現。車などは使えん。

（例文）
・There’s a calendar hanging on the wall.
　カレンダーが壁に掛かっている。
・There’s a mosquito on the ceiling.
　蚊が天井に止まっているよ。　
・On hearing her exam results, she screamed with joy.　
　試験の結果を聞くとすぐ、彼女は喜んで大声を出した。

1) 君のシャツについたそのしみは何？
2) 劇場に着くとすぐ、チケットを忘れてきたことに気がついた。

（答え）
1) What are those stains on your shirt?
2) On arriving at the theater, I realized I had forgotten the tickets!
（解説）
1）" on " = as soon as
