Dialog6「The Night Before the Party」

A) How many people are coming to the party, Dylan?
B) Gee, I don’t know, Megan.
A) Give me a ballpark figure.
B) I’d say 20 or 25?
A) That many?
B) Maybe 30?
A) At this stage of the game, we should just order pizza.
B) I thought you were going to make some Italian dishes.
A) Yeah. Well, pizza is an Italian dish.

・Gee, I don’t know. 　いやあ、わかりません
・ballpark figure 　大まかな数字
・I’d say – ? 　〜といったところかな？
・That many?　そんなに大勢、たくさん？
・exasperated 　動揺して、怒って

・order pizza 　ピザを頼む　「pizzaは可算・不可算どちらにもなる」
・I thought you were going to -　あなたは〜するものと思っていまった。

ざっくりした数字を教えて。

＊依頼の表現。" ballpark figure " は「広い許容範囲」を意味する。ざっくばらんな命令形の依頼。" Can you give me a ballpark figure " なら標準的な表現。

パーティーに何人来るのかをメガンはディランに尋ねます。ディランは彼女にざっくりした数字を教え、彼女はイタリア料理をいくつか作る代わりにピザを頼むことにします。

Megan asks Dylan how many people are coming to the party. Dylan gives her a ballpark figure and she decides to order pizza instead of making some Italian dishes.
