Lesson74「色々な破壊 : ruin, break, destroy」

A) Hi, Gerald. How was your trip to Hawaii?
B) Hi, Cassie. Not so good, I’m afraid.
A) Really? How come?
B) Well, I got a toothache there, and it ruined the whole trip.
A) Oh, that’s too bad. Couldn’t you find a dentist in Hawaii?
B) I didn’t want to spend time looking for one.
A) Are you OK now?
B) Yes. I went to the dentist here.
A) Good. So how about grabbing a bite to eat?
B) Excellent idea. I’m starving.

＊" grab a bite to eat " = 手早く食事をする
＊" a piece of cake " = とっても簡単

　残念ながら、そんなによくなかったよ。

② I didn’t want to spend time looking for one.
　歯医者さんを探すのに時間を使いたくなかったんだ。

それが旅行を台無しにした。

＊ " ruin " は「素晴らしかったはずのものをダメにする」って感じ。" ruins " = 遺跡。完全な物でなく、ボロボロになってるから s が付く
＊ " break " =「壊す・壊れる」の一般を示す。線のようなものが、完全に切れることも示せる。
＊ " destroy " =「回復不可能なまで壊す」というイメージ。

　ああ、近所の窓を壊してしまったよ。

　ガールフレンドと昨晩別れた。

　このスキャンダルはその有名俳優の名声をズタズタにした。
