Lesson73「「作る」のレベル2動詞 : build, construct, produce」

 A) Hi, Yannie. Do you want to see the latest photos of Duke?
 B) Sure. He must be pretty big by now.
 A) You can say that again. Take a look.
 B) Wow! He’s enormous!
 A) Right. German Shepherds grow fast. So now I have to build a new dog kennel.
 B) Do you know how to do that?
 A) Well, I just googled how to do it, and it turns out to be a piece of cake.

＊" kennel " = 犬小屋
＊" a piece of cake " = とっても簡単

① Do you want to see the latest photos of Duke?
　デュークの最近の写真を見たい？前置詞ofの使い方に注意しましょう。

② I just googled how to do it.
　さっき作り方を検索エンジンで調べました。

- Build up your vocabulary -
I have to build a new dog kennel.
新しい犬小屋を建てなければならないの。

＊ " build " は「部品を組み当てることで作る」って感じ。
＊ " constract " =「数多くの部品で、堅牢な物を作る」感じ。
＊ " produce " =「組み立てる」というイメージはない。「皆が使えるように世の中に出す」って感じ。

 （例文）

　この会社の戦略には最新のアイデアが盛り込まれている。
・They are constructing a new airport terminal.
　彼らは新しい空港ターミナルを建造しています。
・Brazil produces some of the world’s best coffees.
　ブラジルは世界最良のコーヒーのいくつかを産出している。
・Our company produces microchips.
　わが社はマイクロチップを製造している。
・ Chris produced his driver’s license from his pocket.
　クリスはポケットから運転免許証を取り出した。

2) 多くの学生は堅実な議論の組み立て方を知らない。
3) 私たちのリンゴの木は今年はこれまでになく多くの実をつけています。

（答え）
1) We are determined to build a better future for our children.
2) Many students don’t know how to construct a solid argument.
3) Our apple trees have produced more fruit than ever this year.
（解説）
 1)  " determine " = 固く決意させる
 2) " solid argument " = 穴のないしっかりと詰まった議論
