Lesson38「句動詞：動詞と前置詞のコンビネーション」

A) I’ve still not decided what to wear for tonight’s party.
B) How about the pink shirt I got you for your birthday?
A) I love that shirt, but I wore it at the last party.
B) OK. Put on your new black shirt and your white jeans, and let’s see how that looks.
A) Good idea. Well, what do you think?
B) Perfect.
A) Thanks. Now, how about you? What are you going to wear?
B) It’s a surprise.
A) I can’t wait.

＊" wing " = （建物の）翼棟

① I’ve still not decided what to wear for tonight’s party.
　今夜のパーティーに何を着ようか、まだ決めていないんだ。
② How about the pink shirt I got you for your birthday?
　私があなたの誕生日に買ってあげたピンクのシャツはどうかしら。

＊" How about " = 提案。

（例文）
・Can you show me how to work this machine?
　この機械の使い方を教えてくれますか？
・I don’t know which way to go.
　どちらの道を行くべきかわからない。

　君はどうするの？

- Build up your vocabulary -
Put on your new black shirt and your white jeans.
　新しい黒いシャツと白いジーンズを着てみて。

＊句動詞は単体の難しい動詞よりも「気楽で分かりやすい」→ 会話で多用される。例）「postpone → put off」「ascertain → find out」。句動詞には「①目的語を取らないもの」と「②目的語を取るもの」と「③目的語を取り分離可能なもの」がある。③は目的語が長いのは前置詞を先に置くことができる。
＊" above " は「高さが上 → 道徳がある」。
＊" beyound " = 範囲を超えて。

② I ran into an old friend of mine.
　私は古い友人にバッタリ会った。
