　風邪に関する語彙・表現を学ぶ

Dialog6 「Betsy Comes Home from Work」
（状況）ベッツィーが仕事から帰ると…。

A) 2人とも起きて何をしてるの？横になっているはずでしょ！
B) サムの食欲が戻ったんだ。彼にトーストを作っているんだよ。
C) 熱が下がったんだ。
A) よかった！あなたはどんな感じなの、ジャック？
B) 喉が前より悪くなった。かろうじて飲み込むことはできる。
C) パパと2人でテレビを観てもいいでしょ？お願い？暖かくしてるって約束するから。
A) まぁ、いいでしょう。2人にハチミツティーを作ってあげる。

A) What are you two doing up? You’re supposed to be resting!
B) Sam got his appetite back. I’m making him toast.
C) My temperature went down.
A) Good! How are you feeling, Jack?
B) My throat is worse. I can barely swallow.
C) Can Dad and I watch TV? Please? I promise we’ll stay warm.
A) Oh, all right. I’ll make you two some tea and honey.

- Words &Expressions -

・up 　起きて、起きた状態で
・be supposed to be- ing　〜しているはずである
・get one’s appetite back 　食欲が戻る
・make – toast　～にトーストを作る
・~ ‘s temperature goes down 　～の熱が下がる。
・can barely -　かろうじて〜することはできる
・swallow　飲み込む
・I promise -　　〜すると約束します。
・stay warm 　暖かくしている
・Oh, all right.　まぁ、いいでしょう。
・tea and honey 　ハチミツティー

- Apply It -

Sam got his appetite back.
サムの食欲が戻りました。

＊状況を伝える表現。" X gets Y back " = 「XがYを取り戻す」

Yには、「money , girlfriend , pride」などが当てはまる。

（応用練習）

A) How’re you feeling?
B) I got my appetite back.
A) That’s great! How’s Ken?　
B) His throat is worse.

- Say It -

I can barely swallow.

＊肯定の助動詞 (can) を弱める。" I " を若干強める。

- Write It -

ジャックはベッツィーにサムの食欲が戻ったと伝えます。ただジャックの喉は前より悪くなっています。かろうじて飲み込むことはできます

Jack tells Betsy that Sam got his appetite back. But Jack’s throat is worse. He can barely swallow.

（解説）

・" tell " の代わりに " say " は使えない。

・but = サムとジャックの状態が対照的なことを示す。

- In Another Situation

They are a family of bears. 彼らはクマの一家である。

What are you two doing up? You’re supposed to be resting!
Sam got his appetite back. I’m giving him some blueberries.
My temperature went down.
Good! How are you feeling, Jack?
My throat is worse. I can barely swallow.
Can Dad and I watch TV? Please? I promise we’ll stay warm.
Oh, all right. I’ll make you two some tea and honey.
That’s very nice.
