Dialog3 「Sam Has a Fever」

（状況）ベッツィーがサムの様子を見に来た

A) サム？起きている？
B) うん。

A) 調子はどう？
B) 鼻水が出る。
A) 額が熱いわ。熱を測らないといけない。すぐに体温計を持ってくるわね
B) 学校を休んで家にいないといけない？
A) 様子を見ましょう。舌の下に体温計を置いて。
B) 僕、何度？
A) 熱があるわ。38.1度よ。

A) Sam? Are you up?
B) Yeah.
A) How are you feeling?
B) I have a runny nose.
A) Your forehead is hot. I need to take your temperature. I’ll be right back with a thermometer.
B) Do I have to stay home from school?
A) We’ll see. Put the thermometer under your tongue.
B) What’s my temperature?
A) You have a fever. It’s 38.1.

- Words &Expressions -

・have a fever 　熱がある
・Are you up? 　起きていますか？
・How are you feeling?　調子はどう？
・have a runny nose 　鼻水が出る
・forehead 　額
・take one’s temperature 　～の体温を測る
・I’ll be right back with -　すぐに〜を持ってきます
・thermometer 　体温計
・call out　大声で呼びかける
・stay home from school　学校を休んで家にいる
・We’ll see. 　様子を見ましょう。そのうち分かります。
・What’s my temperature? 　私の体温は何度？

- Apply It -

Are you up?　起きていますか？

＊状況を尋ねる表現。" up " には、ベットから出ているという意味がある。

・起きて動き回っていることを「 up and about / around 」で表現する。

（応用練習）

A) Is Ken up?
B) He was a minute ago.
A) How is he？
B) He has a runny nose.
A) Oh, no. But first it was his throat.
B) Now it’s his nose.

" are you " を弱化する。フレンドリーな感じで。

サムは鼻水が出ています。額が熱いので、ベッツィーは彼の体温を測ります。彼は熱があります。

Sam has a runny nose. His forehead is hot, so Betsy takes his temperature. He has a fever.
Sam has a runny nose. Betsy takes his temperature because his forehead is hot. He has a fever.

They sing their lines to the tune of "Are you sleeping? "
彼らは「アーユースリーピング」の旋律に合わせてセリフを歌う。
