Lesson71「makeの「目的語説明型」」

 A) I can’t stand my math teacher.
 B) Why? I thought she was one of the most popular teachers.
 A) No way! She’s far too strict.
 B) So, what did she do to you to get you so angry with her?
 A) Well, I was a bit late handing in my homework, and she made me do lots of extra work.
 B) How late were you exactly?
 A) Just one week.
 B) A week! No wonder she punished you!
 A) Hey, whose side are you on?

＊" get around " = あちこちに移動する
＊" can’t say " = 分からない

① What did she do to you to get you so angry with her?
先生がどんなことをしたからそんなに腹を立てているんだい？

② Whose side are you on?
あなたはどっちの味方なの？

（例文）

- Build up your vocabulary -
She made me do lots of extra work.
彼女は私に追加の宿題をたくさんさせました。

＊ " make " は「力を入れて作り上げる」イメージ。そこから「強制的な」力が感じられ、やりたくないのにやらされる感じになっている。
＊ 力や努力、達成感が連想されニュアンスの幅を広げている。

 （例文）

　彼にそんなことをさせてはいけません。
・Let me make my point crystal clear.
　僕の言っている主旨をハッキリさせましょう。
・They made Ken manager instead of me.
　彼らは僕の代わりにケンをマネジャーにした。
・Make yourself at home.
　くつろいでくださいね。

- Express yourself in English -
1) 君は誰かに無理やり君を愛させるなんてできないよ。
2) 僕がいちばんしたいのは両親に僕を誇らしく思わせることです。
3) 英語で言いたいことを伝えるのは難しかった。

1) You can’t make someone love you.
2) What I want most is to make my parents proud of me.
3) It was difficult to make myself understood in English.
（解説）
 3)  " make oneself understood in English " = 努力を重ねながらなんとか伝えようとする感じがある
