「貧困問題」
① there was such a widespread hunger and malnutrition in this wealthy country.
② The harsh reality is that many Americans think of hunger and poverty as something that happens in other countries.

「理由」
・Any number of factors are at play.
① Widening income inequality and the squeeze on the middle class are probably the biggest reasons
② An increasing number of Americans owe more than what they own.
③ The increase of the senior population has contributed to the problem.
A growing number of them are finding it harder to keep up with increasing housing costs, healthcare charges and utility costs. Many of them don't have enough savings to carry them through.

① one in five Americans approaching retirement age haven't set aside nest egg.
② Most Americans who are poor own computers, have cars and have bigger homes than many people in other countries.

① Causes of poverty in third world countries include population explosions, lack of infrastructure, corruption, natural disasters, political instability and war, but poverty in America is different.

① The definition of what constitutes poverty should also factor in the metric of how secure people feel in their homes, state of their health and their work.

② belong to a group of professionals who've started an online campaign to collect money for domestic hunger-relief groups.

（アメリカの事例）
① Americans give roughly $4 billion annually through workplace fundraising drives. We see workplace volunteerism as a valuable way to strengthen our relationships with our own employees, and with local communities.
