Lesson107「発言に関わる動詞③：say」

 A) Hi, Debit. Do you mind if I join you?
 B) Oh, hi Nadia. Of course not. Take a seat. How are things?
 A) Well, actually, I have some news. I’m quitting.
 B) What did you say?
 A) I’m leaving the company. The current situation here leaves me no other choice.
 B) But you’re one of the key people in this company. We won’t be able to do anything without you,
 A) Well, I don’t know about that.

＊" Any luck? " = うまくいきましたか？
＊" a fortune " = 大金

- Check your grammar -
① Do you mind if I join you? – Of course not.
　あなたの隣に座っていい？- もちろんいいよ。
② The current situation here leaves me no other choice.
　この会社の今の状況だと、ほかに選択肢はないわ。

＊" mind " に対する返答は " not " がyes

（例文）

＊ " say " は「言葉を言う」。「言葉」に焦点がある。
＊ " say " は「仮に〜としよう・例えば」という意味もある。提案している時に使う。
＊ " discuss " は「議論する」。" share " の感触がある。
＊ " negotiate " は「交渉する」。「綱引き」がイメージ。

 （例文）

　ありがとって言いなさいよ。
・I have to say that I’m surprised by your reaction.
　君の反応には驚かされたと言わざるをえないな。
・The sign says you can’t swim here.
　この標識には遊泳禁止って書いてあるよ。
・Let’s say I talk with the boss and see what he thinks about your proposal.
　仮に、僕がボスに話をして彼が君の提案をどう考えているのか見てみるとしようか。
・Why don’t you come around to my place, say, at 8:30?
　例えば8時30分は？私のところに来ない、

1) 彼女はね、僕たちの計画はひどいって言っているよ。
2) 気候変動なんて存在しないと主張する人もいるが、事実は異なったことを言っている。
3) 仮に君が1か月に2万円ためたとしようか。来年までには新しいラップトップを買うのに十分なお金がたまるよ。

1) She’s saying that our plan sounds terrible.
2) Some claim that climate change doesn’t exist, but the facts say otherwise.
3) Let’s say you put aside ¥20,000 a month. You’ll have enough to buy a new laptop by next year.
