～ラジオ英会話11月のテーマと目的～
・「過去分詞形 , 節」をマスターする。
・節とは主語・動詞を備えた文の中で使われる小さな文である。複雑な内容を伝るには不可欠な要素。節には、「that節」「if・whether節」「wh節」の3種類。

Lesson157：「文の中の小さな文：節④ wh 節」
（状況）ターシャがどこに住んでいるかを話し合っている。

A) It was a great welcome party on Friday.
B) Yes. Tasha had a great time.
A) I think she is a very interesting person. She’s into all kinds of activities, including playing the guitar in a band.
B) Right. But where she lives is a mystery. When I accompanied her to the station, she told me she lived in Ogikubo, but I saw her getting on a train going in the opposite direction. I’m not sure if she was telling the truth.
A) I think she lives in Okubo, not Ogikubo.
B) Oh, the names sound so similar to me. Maybe I misheard her.

A) 金曜日はすばらしい歓迎会だったわ。
B) うん。ターシャはとても楽しい時間を過ごせたね。
A) 彼女はとても面白い人だと思うわ。彼女はバンドでギターを弾くとかいろいろなことに熱中しているのよ。
B) そうだね。だけど、彼女がどこに住んでいるのかは謎だね。僕が彼女と一緒に駅まで行ったとき、荻窪に住んでいると言ったけど、彼女が反対方向に行く電車に乗るのを見たんだ。彼女が本当のここを言っていたのかどうか、分からないんだ。
A) 彼女は荻窪ではなく、大久保に住んでいるんだと思うけど。
B) ああ、どちらの地名も僕には同じに聞こえるよ。たぶん、僕は彼女の言葉を聞き違えたんだろうね。

- Real grammar for communication -

Where she lives is a mystery.
彼女がどこに住んでいるのかは謎だね。

＊「Where does she live ?」は " where " と " does she live " がそれぞれ独立している。
「Where she lives」はひとまとまり。疑問の感覚はない。

（例文）

・He asked me what I wanted for my birthday.
彼は私に誕生日に何が欲しいのか尋ねた。
・This is exactly what I wanted for my birthday.
これがまさに私が誕生日に欲しかったものです。
・Shibuya is far from where I live.
渋谷は僕が住んでいるところから遠いよ

1) なぜ彼女がそんないい仕事を辞めたのか分からない。
2) その医師はいつ私の胸の痛みが始まったのかと尋ねた。
3) 私は皆さんが私の家族のためにやってくれたことを忘れることはできません。

（答え）

1) Why she quit such a good job is beyond me.
2) The doctor asked me when I started having chest pains.
3) I can’t forget what you guys did for my family.
