Dialog1 「Sam Is Under the Weather」

（状況）息子のサムが学校から帰ってきた‥

A) 学校はどうだった？
B) まあまあだった。大勢の子どもたちが風邪を引いているよ。
A) そうなの？
B) クロック先生がティッシュの箱をクラスに回していたよ。
A) 本当に？
B) うん。アビー・アンダーソンが何度も咳とくしゃみをしていて。早引きしなければならなかったんだ。
A) かわいそうなアビー。
B) ママ、僕、気分があまりよくない。
A) どこが悪いの、サム？
B) 喉が痛いんだ

A) How was school?
B) It was okay. A lot of kids have colds.
A) Oh?
B) Ms.Klock passed a box of tissues around the class.
A) Really?
B) Yup. Abby Anderson was coughing and sneezing a lot. She had to leave early.
A) Poor Abby.
B) Mom, I don’t feel so good.
A) What’s wrong, honey?
B) My throat hurts.

- Words &Expressions -

・catch a bug 風邪を引く

・have a cold 　風邪を引いている
・pass – around 　〜に-を回す
・cough and sneeze 　咳とくしゃみをする
・leave early　早引きする
・not feel so good(well)　調子があまりよくない
・My – hurts. 　私の〜が痛い・痛みます

- Apply It -
My throat hurts. 喉が痛みます。

＊状況を伝える表現。痛いところをまず特定し(My throat ) , そこが痛む（hurt) ,と結ぶ表現。文末にa lot / a littleを加えれば、痛みの程度を伝えることができる。

A) Ken doesn’t feel so well.
B) What’s wrong?
A) He says his throat hurts.
B) Uh-oh.
A) I hope he’ll be okay.

- Say It -
How was school？

＊" was" と " school" を上手く続ける。

・" was"を弱める。次に、音を切らずに軽く" z " といったまま、" school" と続ける。

- Write It -

サムの学校では大勢の子どもたちが風邪を引いています。サム自身も調子があまりよくありません。喉が痛むんです。

A lot of kids have colds at Sam’s school. Sam himself doesn’t feel so good (well) , either. His throat hurts.

（解説）

・も〜でありません。＝ not – either

・調子があまりよくない

　doesn’t feel so good＝会話的

　doesn’t feel so well = 標準的

- In Another Situation -

Well, now, Sam has been to Coldtown on a school excursion.
サムは学校の遠足でコールドタウンへ行ってきたところである。

How was Coldtown?
It was cold. A lot of folks have cold there.
Oh?
The tour guide handed out a box of tissues to each of us.
Oh, Really?
Yup. Abby Anderson was coughing and sneezing violently. She had to go to the ER.
Oh, poor Abby.
You know, I don’t feel so well.
What’s wrong, honey?
I am nausea.
It might be a flu.
Oh, no!
Mmm, that town was a strong influence on you.
What?!
That’s not nice.
